HuskerFreak 2011

GO BIG RED!!

Hello Husker fans!!  Welcome to the home of the Husker Freak.  Below are some of my ramblings.  Below on the left you can find my Twitter feed.

Check out the Husker football schedule Countdown Clock!

11/15/11 - Proud to be a Husker Freak

The horrible events that have transpired for so many years at Penn State have touched the lives of people all around the country.  There are a lot of opinions about what could have and should have been done to stop the evil that occurred because of Sandusky.  My opinion is that if you are of sound integrity you will do the right thing no matter what it costs you.  Some coaches, teachers, administrators and who knows who else put their own careers ahead of the safety and well being of helpless young boys and that is what is so disturbing about this whole ordeal.  Some people want to take God out of the schools, the currency, out of our songs and out of our lives.  Is that really what the world needs right now?  "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing".

Since Nebraska was next on Penn State's football schedule, we were drawn into the scandal and the massive media coverage.  What happened next is why I am proud to be a Husker Freak.  You may think that I'm just a fan of a college team, but why I am really a Husker Freak is because of what we stand for and how we display it.  The integrity of Ron Brown and Tom Osborne as well as the way that the Husker team and fans handled the struggles in Happy Valley are the heart of why we can all be proud to be Huskers.

Below are some examples of what people are saying about the Huskers after our visit to Happy Valley last week.  This first message is from my Friend Todd.  He says it better than I can.

"All week before the game, I said that I didn't want Nebraska to be in that game. Anybody else, but not us. I thought it was a no-win situation literally and figuratively. After the pregame prayer and some time to reflect on what occurred, I'll admit that I was completely wrong. Nebraska was the right team, the only team, to be on that field with Penn State. The single biggest reason I am a Husker fan is because of men like Ron Brown, Tom Osborne and Brook Berringer...for who they were and what they stood for. Reflecting back on the pregame, Ron Brown was there for a reason and was the best person to stand in the middle of that circle. Never have I been more proud to be a fan of Nebraska.

Go Big Red!!!"
-- Todd Davis

* This article written by Tom Shatel after the game, really speaks to the integrity of Ron Brown and what it means to be a Husker.

* And some of the best testimonies came from the people of Penn State.  This article is something we can all be proud of.

Go Big Red!!

September 2011 - We brought the twins to the Washington game, it was their first ever home Husker game. We take them to all the spring games and this year we decided they were ready for a real game. They had a great time with the chearleaders before the game and they even got to see our cousin Brett Maher after the game. Yes, that's right, our star punter and kicker Brett Maher is our cousin. He comes directly from my Mom's side of the family, the Swede's! Unfortunately none of our Italian family have become Huskers. Here is a picture of the Husker Freak with Brett after the Washington game.

August 30, 2011 - Only a few days until we kick off our football premier in the Big 10! Texas A&M announced to the Big 12 today that they are leaving. This is looking like it will be a great week! One more nail in the Baghdad Beebe coffin.

The Sidetrack Band will start playing at their new location Friday night. They open at 6 on Friday night and at 8 AM on Saturday morning before the game. I'll be there with all you other Husker Freaks!

Have you checked out the Big Ten Network information yet? Take a look around, they have some great stuff. Go Big Red!

July 2011 - It's almost football time!! I don't know about you but I am stoked to start playing in the Big 10. I need to get busy learning all the new coaches and towns and Big 10 school stuff. In the meantime, Go Big Red!

10/17/10 - That loss was a heartbreaker. I think just about anyone could have beaten us last night. Even though we talked about this just being another game it was obvious that it wasn't. We've been so mad about the Texas loss last year that it consumed us. I know I wanted this win more than any other single game this year. Well its obvious that our obsession with the Big 12 game last year cost us this game this year. We couldn't do anything right. Henery was awesome as usual, but we couldn't catch or hold on to the ball to save our life (and reputation), yesterday. Zac did a great job coming in off the bench and moving us downfield. But he can't throw the ball and then go catch it too. We have no one to blame but ourselves for this one. Were there questionable calls (and non calls)? You bet there were, but if we had taken of business it wouldn't have mattered. The bad news is Texas owns us with a 1 - 8 record and we still haven't beaten them in Lincoln since 1933. The good news is, we don't have to play them anymore. I just wish if we were going to lose, it would have been to a better team, instead of due to us beating ourselves. Go Big Red!

10/7/10 - It is pretty sweet sitting at 5 - 0. We've got a lot of work to do on the 16th though. We need to keep up the intensity and send the whorns back to Texas with their horns between their legs. This is a good start on the season but we've got a lot of games left so lets keep kicking ass!! Go Big Red!

4/14/10 - Well we should have won the Big 12 last year but we didn't. We should have shut out Arizona and we DID! This year the Big 12 title is OURS! Only 2 days until the spring game, I can't wait! No green jerseys on the QBs this year, this will be awesome!
We will miss this guy, but the defense will be king again this year:

11/07/09 - That Oklahoma game was one of the better games I've been to. The stadium was rocking and the crowd was as loud as I've ever heard it. Bo's defense held the Sooners to just 3 points, the lowest that Stoops has ever been held to. What a game! This is what it looked like to OU's offense:

11/04/08 - We had a big group that went to Norman for the "game".  We had a great time despite the score of the game.  We partied down in Bricktown on Halloween and then tailgated at the Lloyd Noble center all day Saturday.  The OU fans were great and they really know how to take care of the visiting team!  Here are the pictures from our trip.  We had a surprise visit from Lee Corso too.

10/17/08 - Today the coach at the Big Red Breakfast was Carl Pelini.  Chris, Rex and I made special shirts to welcome Carl.

If you haven't seen the "In Carl We Trust" skit from KETV, you should check it out here.  It's hilarious and explains our shirts.  We stopped Coach Carl on his way in and he smiled when he saw our shirts.  We shook hands with him and he commented, "Nice shirts!".  That's our 5 seconds of fame...

08/19/08 - This is a funny Husker preview article.

08/11/08 - The Pelini era is starting soon and I'll be going to the Big Red Breakfasts again!  Look for my reports to the left.

12/02/07 - Tom Osborne announces Bo Pelini as the new Huskers head coach!  Welcome back Bo, we missed you!!  What a great day to be a Husker!

“If you don’t play hard, you don’t have much of a chance,” said Osborne, the most powerful interim athletic director in the history of college sport.
"As you know, occasionally you’ll win a game if you give up 50 points, but you’re not going to win many,” -- Tom Osborne
“I don’t always say a whole lot, but I notice everything.” -- Bo Pelini
